It is amazing to think only a few days ago that the river was covered by ice and snow. Today the thaw has really set in, with the glorious feeling of warm sun on our faces! The highest temperature was only +9.3 (to be precise) but it felt so much warmer than that. The feeling of freedom engendered by not having to wear a hat or gloves is quite wonderful! I still found I needed one warm layer and jeans, unlike the many crazy Canadians we saw (at least we thought they must be Canadians!) who were wearing shorts (really short shorts) and singlet tops and flip flops (thongs for the Aussies!). A few rays of warm sun had clearly gone to their heads!
It was lovely to see so many happy people out today, smiling in the sunshine. Having endured the long winter makes the appreciation of the warmth of the sun so much sweeter!
